ADT Quality Service Plan (QSP): What It Covers and Costs

ADT's Quality Service Plan (QSP) is an extended limited warranty: ADT repairs or replaces ADT-supplied equipment that malfunctions, excluding wiring and batteries. ADT says it costs a few dollars a month but publishes no price. Technician visits still cost $25 to $99 each, depending on which ADT page or contract applies. Without QSP, post-warranty repairs bill at ADT's labor rate.

Figures researched 2026-10-01; each source below carries its access date. Prices change; treat any price here as "as of" its date.

What does ADT QSP cover?

ADT's current residential contract defines QSP as an Extended Limited Warranty. If you buy it, ADT will repair or, at its option, replace any covered part of ADT-supplied equipment that fails due to malfunction, excluding wiring and batteries. The contract names three tiers, as of October 2026:

QSP tierWhat it covers, per ADT's contract
EssentialSecurity and life safety devices
ComprehensiveSecurity, life safety, automation and video devices
AdvancedEverything in Comprehensive, plus an annual virtual preventative maintenance checkup, an annual smart home consultation and some equipment discounts after the first year

All tiers include virtual installation and service support. ADT's page for former Protection 1 customers adds that its remote video support is available at no cost to customers with QSP.

The exclusions are long, and they decide most claims. QSP does not apply when ADT finds the problem came from accidents, theft, weather or power surges, misuse, doors or windows left open, not following operating instructions, phone line, internet or power problems, ordinary wear and tear, changes to your home, or damage you caused. It does not cover devices ADT did not supply (even if ADT installed them), household systems ADT did not supply but that connect to the alarm, like thermostats, locks or garage doors, smoke or CO detectors installed more than five years ago, discontinued devices, or promotional gifts. Battery replacement is excluded from every ADT warranty.

How much does ADT QSP cost?

ADT does not publish a standalone QSP price. Its support center says only that QSP covers repair or replacement costs "for just a few dollars each month", and that you add it by calling ADT. The one published package we found that includes QSP is ADT's Lennar homebuilder offer: a Safewatch QuickConnect Plus package that includes QSP at a standard $42.99 a month on a 36-month contract. Because the QSP portion is not broken out, that figure does not tell you QSP's own price.

What ADT does publish is that QSP still carries a charge each time a technician comes out, and its pages disagree on the amount:

Where ADT states itPer-visit charge with QSP
Current residential services contract$99 on-site assessment charge per service call booking, plus fuel surcharge if applicable; may vary by location
Billing FAQs (any in-person service call)Typically $59.99 per visit
Welcome page for former Protection 1 customers$59 on-site charge for QSP customers, effective 1/14/25
Monitoring terms (older contract form)$25 trip fee per QSP visit after the initial term, none if the contract renewed for more than one month

The contract also lets ADT change QSP pricing and the on-site charge at any time by posting the update on MyADT. So the number that binds you is the one in your own contract and on your MyADT account, not any of these. Ask for both the monthly QSP price and the per-visit charge in writing when you get a quote.

When is a repair cheaper without QSP?

Start with the warranty you get anyway. After professional installation, ADT's contract gives a 90-day limited warranty on ADT-supplied equipment and wiring at no charge. ADT's warranty page for purchased products covers parts only for 90 days, with standard travel and labor charges for any technician visit. After that window, without QSP, ADT bills its current labor rate per service call. ADT does not publish that labor rate.

Because neither the QSP price nor the labor rate is published, we cannot give a universal break-even point. You can work out your own from the quote:

  1. Multiply the monthly QSP price by the months left on your contract.
  2. Compare that with what you expect to pay in parts and labor without it, minus the per-visit charge you would still pay with QSP.
  3. Remember the exclusions: battery swaps, storm damage, wear and tear and non-ADT devices cost the same with or without QSP.

Three other terms push the decision. QSP billing starts when the system goes live and runs for the term of the contract, then renews in 30-day periods at ADT's then-current rate unless either side gives 30 days' written notice. If you buy QSP after installation, the system must be in good working order. And ADT's six-month money-back guarantee only applies if you have paid for both QSP and professional monitoring continuously from activation, which our guide to cancelling ADT covers in detail.

Is QSP worth it for your system?

On paper, QSP makes the most sense on a large pro-install system with cameras and automation, where the Comprehensive or Advanced tier covers devices that cost real money to replace, and on a system you plan to keep for the full term. It makes the least sense on a small, newer system, or if your problems are likely to be batteries or Wi-Fi, which QSP excludes.

QSP is one line on a larger bill. For the monitoring side, see the ADT monitoring cost guide; for hardware prices and install fees, see ADT equipment cost; and for the overall verdict, is ADT worth it. The home security cost per month guide shows how ADT's total compares with other providers' published prices. Frequently asked questions

What does ADT QSP cover?
QSP is ADT's extended limited warranty. ADT repairs or replaces ADT-supplied equipment that malfunctions, excluding wiring and batteries, under one of three tiers (Essential, Comprehensive, Advanced). It excludes damage, misuse, wear and tear, internet or power problems, non-ADT devices and smoke or CO detectors older than five years.
How much does ADT QSP cost per month?
ADT does not publish a QSP price. Its support center says it costs a few dollars each month. The exact price comes with your quote or from ADT by phone.
Does QSP make ADT service calls free?
No. ADT's pages list a per-visit charge even with QSP: $99 plus any fuel surcharge in its current contract, typically $59.99 in its billing FAQs, $59 on its page for former Protection 1 customers, and $25 in an older contract form. Remote video support is free for QSP customers.
Can I cancel ADT QSP?
ADT's contract says QSP runs for the contract term, then renews in 30-day periods at the current rate unless either side gives written notice at least 30 days before the period ends. Dropping QSP also ends eligibility for ADT's six-month money-back guarantee.
Is ADT QSP the same as the Extended Service Plan?
ADT's page for former Protection 1 customers says QSP may be known to them as the Extended Service Plan, so for those accounts the two names refer to the same coverage.
