Two pricing observations, both from the published numbers. First, Abode's annual Pro plan ($245.99 per year, about $20.50 per month) undercuts SimpliSafe Core (~$33 per month) by roughly a third for the comparable monitored tier. Second, Abode's free tier is unusually generous: live camera viewing, full app control, and smart home integrations with no subscription at all, where SimpliSafe's camera recording features require a paid plan.

Abode also prices video separately: 24/7 continuous recording with 10 days of video history is a $9.99 per month per camera add-on, and a camera-only plan (no hub) runs $3.99 per month per camera. SimpliSafe bundles unlimited recordings with 30-day storage for up to 10 cameras into Core and above. Camera-heavy homes should run this math both ways before deciding.

One inconsistency to know about on Abode's own page: its plan cards list Standard at $8.49 per month, while an FAQ on the same page says paid plans start "at $7/month". We use the listed card prices ($8.49 and $26.99 monthly, $79.99 and $245.99 yearly) throughout, since those are the prices attached to the actual purchase options.

Neither company requires a contract; both state you can cancel or change plans any time, and Abode states there are no cancellation fees or penalties. Where each system is actually stronger

Abode: integrations. Abode works inside Apple HomeKit (on its Iota and Smart Security Kit hubs), and it also supports Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, IFTTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Sonos, per its published plan matrix. Abode's US-based monitoring center handles dispatch for break-ins, fire, and medical on the Pro plan, and Abode states that its Standard and Pro plans both qualify for insurance discounts and that it supplies monitoring documentation insurers accept.

SimpliSafe: the monitoring service itself. SimpliSafe's plans layer services Abode does not publish an equivalent for: video verification, where agents use camera evidence to get faster police response than its non-verified alarms; intruder intervention through the indoor camera; and on Pro and Pro Plus, Active Guard Outdoor Protection, where live agents watch the outdoor camera feed during armed hours and can speak to, and trigger sirens at, someone on your property before entry. SimpliSafe also backs subscribed systems with a lifetime equipment warranty and up to $500 toward your insurance deductible after a break-in on Active Guard plans.

One honest caveat each way. Abode's cellular backup, which keeps the system online during an internet outage, is only included on the Pro plan; on the free and Standard tiers a downed connection means no remote alerts until it returns, per Abode's own FAQ. And SimpliSafe's headline features (Active Guard, video verification) require its upper plans and specific cameras, so the ~$33 Core price does not include them.

Which one to pick

Of the two, by published pricing and features as of August 2026:

• Pick Abode if you want the cheaper published path to 24/7 professional monitoring of the two covered here (Pro at $245.99 per year), a genuinely useful free tier, or if HomeKit, Home Assistant, Z-Wave, or Zigbee integration is a requirement. It suits smart-home tinkerers and anyone who wants monitoring some months and self-monitoring others, since plan switching is free and instant.
• Pick SimpliSafe if the monitoring service is the product you care about: verified alarms, agents who can intervene at the camera, a hardware warranty for life while subscribed, and simple flat plans. It is the stronger pick for someone who wants to set it up once and let the monitoring center do the thinking.
