Abode vs Ring Alarm: No-Fee Tiers and Monitoring Compared
Ring Alarm is cheaper to professionally monitor and Abode is more open to other smart home systems. As of October 2026, Ring Pro is $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year, against Abode Pro at $26.99 per month or $245.99 per year. Neither requires a contract, and both work with no plan at all. Abode's free tier keeps app control and live video and lists integrations with Home Assistant, Z-Wave and Zigbee, plus HomeKit on its Iota and Smart Security Kit hubs; Ring's no-plan mode is keypad-only arming.

What do Abode and Ring Alarm cost?
All prices are as of October 2026, from each company's plans page.
| Tier | Abode | Ring |
|---|---|---|
| No plan | Free: app access, live video, smart home integrations, push notifications | Free: alarm works, Device Modes from the Keypad; app arming needs a plan |
| Self-monitoring tier | Standard $8.49/mo or $79.99/yr | Solo $4.99/mo or $49.99/yr (one device); Multi $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr (all devices at one location) |
| Professional monitoring | Pro $26.99/mo or $245.99/yr | Pro $19.99/mo or $199.99/yr |
| 24/7 continuous recording | $9.99/mo per camera, 10 days of history | $3/mo per eligible camera, up to 14 days, requires any Ring plan |
| Contract | None; cancel or change from the app with no fees | None; plans auto-renew until canceled |
On the monitored tier, Ring is $7 per month cheaper, or $46 per year cheaper on annual billing (our arithmetic). Abode's Standard plan undercuts Ring Multi for whole-home self-monitoring with recorded clips ($79.99 against $99.99 per year).
Starter hardware. Ring's 5-piece Alarm Security Kit was $199.99 (listed regular price $244.95) and includes a base station, keypad, contact sensor, motion detector and range extender. Abode's Security Kit lists at $150 and includes the Security Hub, one mini door/window sensor and a keyfob (Abode notes this hub is not compatible with HomeKit); Abode was running 50% off when you check out with a monthly Pro plan, and removing the plan removes the discount. The two kits are not like for like: Ring's includes a keypad and motion detector, Abode's does not, so budget for extra Abode sensors. Abode's plan details are broken out further in our Abode monitoring cost guide, and Ring's in Ring monitoring cost.
What does each cost over three years?
Our arithmetic on published prices, starter kit plus professional monitoring:
| Setup | 36-month total |
|---|---|
| Ring 5-piece kit + Ring Pro annual ($199.99 + 3 x $199.99) | $799.96 |
| Ring 5-piece kit + Ring Pro monthly ($199.99 + 36 x $19.99) | $919.63 |
| Abode Security Kit at list + Abode Pro annual ($150 + 3 x $245.99) | $887.97 |
| Abode kit at the 50% Pro discount + Abode Pro monthly ($75 + 36 x $26.99) | $1,046.64 |
Ring comes out cheaper on both billing paths, and Abode's total does not yet include a motion sensor or keypad. For self-monitoring only, the order flips: Abode Standard at $79.99 per year is $239.97 over three years against $299.97 for Ring Multi. For context against the wider market, see home security cost per month.
Which works better with other smart home devices?
This is Abode's main advantage on paper. Its plans page lists integrations with Apple HomeKit (on the Iota and Smart Security Kit hubs only), Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Home Assistant, IFTTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave and Sonos, and it includes these on the free tier. On paper, that makes Abode the easier of the two to fold into a self-hosted setup; our Home Assistant security systems guide covers that path in more detail.
Ring's alarm integrates with Ring cameras, Ring doorbells and Alexa-enabled Echo devices, and Ring says those integrations, including arming by voice through Alexa, require a Ring Protect subscription. Ring's plans also list access to the Ring Appstore. We did not find HomeKit or Home Assistant support listed on the Ring pages we read.
When the internet goes down. Abode says that on the free and Standard plans the system keeps working locally (siren and sensors) but stops sending remote notifications; the Pro plan adds 4G cellular backup. Ring lists alarm cellular backup in its plan comparison, and Ring Pro adds Backup Internet for the Alarm Pro base station with 3GB of data per month included, then $1 per extra GB.
Monitoring. Abode says its Pro plan is monitored by a US-based center that dispatches police, fire or medical help. Ring states it does not own its monitoring center and offers monitoring in all 50 states. Ring Pro includes smoke and CO monitoring; Abode lists a separate Smoke Alarm Monitor device.
Which one should you pick?
Of the two, by published pricing as of October 2026:
- Pick Ring Alarm if you want the cheapest professional monitoring of the two, a more complete starter kit, and you already use Ring cameras or Alexa. Ring Pro also bundles up to 180 days of video history.
- Pick Abode if smart home integration matters more than the monthly fee, you want a useful free tier with app control, or you want to self-monitor cheaply with recorded clips on the Standard plan.
Self-monitoring on either brand means no one dispatches help if you miss an alert, so read Abode vs SimpliSafe and is professional monitoring worth it before dropping to a free tier.
