Smart Locks That Work With SimpliSafe (2026)
SimpliSafe publishes two smart lock options: its own Smart Lock (Series 2, $119.99 as of October 2026), which locks when you arm the system and disarms it when unlocked with a PIN, and August locks (the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock or August Smart Lock + Connect), which lock and unlock with arming and disarming but need a supported SimpliSafe monitoring subscription.
Figures researched 2026-10-01; each source below carries its access date. Prices change; treat any price here as "as of" its date.
Which smart locks does SimpliSafe support?
SimpliSafe's own pages name two lock routes, and neither is a list of third-party Z-Wave locks, which is the main difference from Ring Alarm's approach (see smart locks that work with Ring Alarm).
| Lock | Price (October 2026) | How it connects | Plan needed for the lock integration | What it does with the alarm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SimpliSafe Smart Lock (Series 2) | $119.99 | Pairs directly to the SimpliSafe Gen 3 Base Station | None listed on the product page | Locks when you arm (home or away); a valid PIN on its PIN Pad unlocks and disarms |
| August Wi-Fi Smart Lock | $199.99 | Cloud link between your SimpliSafe and August accounts | A supported residential or business monitoring subscription | Locks when you arm, unlocks when you disarm; you choose the behaviour per arming state |
| August Smart Lock + Connect | $199.99 | Same, through August's Connect Wi-Fi bridge | Same as above | Same as above |
August's own SimpliSafe page lists one more bundle, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock + Keypad. The Yale Approach Lock, which August also sells, is not on either company's SimpliSafe list, so do not assume it works.
The August integration is set up from the SimpliSafe web account, not the app. SimpliSafe's support article says it is not currently possible to set it up from the SimpliSafe App: you open Integrations in the online account, authorize August, enter a PIN that August emails you, and then pick how the lock reacts to each arming state.
How the SimpliSafe Smart Lock works with the system
The SimpliSafe Smart Lock is a retrofit. It mounts over the inside of a standard single-cylinder deadbolt with a screwdriver, keeps your existing key working, and runs on 4 AA batteries. It requires a SimpliSafe Gen 3 system. SimpliSafe says it recommends keeping the system on Wi-Fi but that Wi-Fi is not required.
What it does with the alarm, per SimpliSafe's product and support pages:
- Arming locks the door. All equipped doors lock when you set the system to Home or Away.
- Unlocking disarms. Entering any valid PIN on the PIN Pad unlocks the door and disarms the system. SimpliSafe's support article adds that whenever you unlock the Smart Lock, it also disarms the system, to prevent false alarms.
- Locking does not arm. SimpliSafe states plainly that the Smart Lock cannot arm your system when you lock your door; it can only disarm on unlock. So lock-and-leave still needs a tap on the keypad, app or key fob.
- Auto-Lock. You can set the lock to relock after 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes.
- Door sensor sync. If an Entry Sensor is on the same door, you can pair them so the lock does not throw the bolt while the door is open.
- Wrong-PIN handling. From the fifth wrong PIN the lock starts app alerts and progressively longer lockouts, and cameras on the system start recording. After the eleventh wrong attempt, customers with professional monitoring get a call from the monitoring center.
- Duress PIN. A duress PIN unlocks and disarms as normal but silently alerts the monitoring center that you need police, with select monitoring plans.
That last pair of features is where the monitoring plan matters for the SimpliSafe lock. The lock itself does not list a plan requirement, but the monitoring center call and the duress alert only exist if a professional monitoring plan is active.
Which SimpliSafe plan do you need for a smart lock?
For the August integration, SimpliSafe's support article requires a supported residential or business monitoring subscription, and August's page says syncing is available to SimpliSafe customers on the interactive professional monitoring plan. SimpliSafe's monitoring page lists August compatibility (lock and unlock when you arm or disarm) as a plan feature in its comparison of the Core, Pro and Pro Plus plans.
SimpliSafe's plan prices as of October 2026, from its support page:
| Plan | Monthly price | Lists smart home integrations (Alexa, Google Assistant) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro Plus | $79.99 | Yes |
| Pro | $49.99 | Yes |
| Core | $32.99 | Yes |
| Standard | $22.99 | Not in its feature list |
| Self-Monitoring with Camera Recordings | $9.99 | Not in its feature list |
SimpliSafe's marketing page states the same three main tiers per day: Core $1.10/day, Pro $1.66/day and Pro Plus $2.66/day. We could not find a SimpliSafe page that says whether the Standard plan supports the August integration, so if you want August on Standard, confirm with SimpliSafe before buying the lock. Our SimpliSafe monitoring cost guide breaks down what each tier adds.
Without any plan, SimpliSafe says you keep live camera view and remote arm and disarm in the app, but you lose emergency dispatch, the built-in network backup during a power outage and the other paid features.
Which lock to buy, on paper: if you are adding a lock to an existing SimpliSafe system, the SimpliSafe Smart Lock is $80 cheaper than either August option and does not depend on a cloud link between two companies. August makes sense if you already own one, or if you want a lock that also works with Apple HomeKit, which August lists for its Wi-Fi Smart Lock. For how SimpliSafe's lock compares with Abode's and Ring's options, see smart locks for security systems. Doorbell cameras follow the same pattern of first-party and partner options; see video doorbells that work with alarm systems.
Frequently asked questions
- Does SimpliSafe work with August locks?
- Yes. SimpliSafe supports the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock and the August Smart Lock + Connect. Once linked, the August lock locks or unlocks depending on the state of your SimpliSafe system. SimpliSafe requires a supported monitoring subscription for the integration and you set it up from the SimpliSafe web account, not the app.
- Can the SimpliSafe Smart Lock arm my system when I lock the door?
- No. SimpliSafe says the Smart Lock cannot arm the system when you lock the door; it can only disarm it when you unlock. It works the other way round: arming the system locks the door.
- Does the SimpliSafe Smart Lock need a monitoring plan?
- SimpliSafe's product page lists a Gen 3 system and a single-cylinder deadbolt as requirements, and no plan. Plan-dependent extras are the duress PIN alert and the monitoring center call after repeated wrong PINs, which need professional monitoring.
- Does SimpliSafe work with Z-Wave or Yale locks?
- SimpliSafe's pages we checked list only its own Smart Lock and August locks. The Yale Approach Lock, sold by August, is not on the SimpliSafe compatibility list on either company's site.
