Smart Locks That Work With Ring Alarm and the Ring App
Ring Alarm works with more than 35 Works with Ring certified Z-Wave locks from Schlage, Kwikset and Yale, and every one needs a Ring Alarm Base Station. Pairing is free. Arming or disarming the alarm from the lock needs a compatible Ring subscription. Wi-Fi locks such as the Schlage Encode link to Ring doorbells and cameras instead, not to the alarm.

Which smart locks are compatible with Ring Alarm?
Ring Alarm talks to locks over Z-Wave, the same radio its own sensors use. Ring's support article says Ring Alarm currently supports more than 35 Z-Wave locks from Schlage, Kwikset and Yale, and that Works with Ring certified locks require an Alarm Base Station, because Z-Wave devices need a Z-Wave controller to communicate. Ring's published model list, as of October 2026:
| Maker | Model numbers Ring lists |
|---|---|
| Schlage | BE469ZP, BE468ZP, BE469, BE468, FE599 |
| Kwikset | 910TRL, 910CNT, 912LL TRL, 914TRL, 916TRL, 910S TRL, 910S CNT, 888, 954, 918, 620 LR |
| Yale | YRD210, YRD120, YRD110, YRL210, YRL220, YRD216, YRD226, YRD246, YRD446, YRD256, YRL216-ZW2, YRL226-ZW2, YRL236-ZW2, YRL256-ZW2, YRD410-ZW2, YRD450-ZW2, YRD420-ZW2, YRD430-ZW2 |
Ring flags the last four Yale models (YRD410, 450, 420 and 430 ZW2) as not compatible with "Touch" models. Match the full model number on the box or the lock's label against this list before you buy, because the same lock family is often sold in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Z-Wave versions that look identical.
Ring's own store sells one Z-Wave lock for the alarm: the Yale Real Living Assure Lock SL with Z-Wave Plus at $219.99. Ring says pairing a compatible lock with Ring Alarm is completely free, so a Z-Wave lock you already own costs nothing extra to add.
On security, Ring says its Alarm sensors connect to the Base Station using Z-Wave S2, which uses Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman key exchange and AES encryption, and that you need to check with the lock maker whether a given lock uses S2. For how Z-Wave compares with Zigbee for locks and sensors, see Z-Wave vs Zigbee for security sensors.
What can a Z-Wave lock do with Ring Alarm?
Once a certified lock is paired, Ring lists these functions:
- Lock and unlock from the Ring app, with a key, or with PIN codes you share with family and friends.
- Alexa control of the lock.
- Arm on lock, disarm on unlock. In the Ring app you can set locking with an access code (or one-touch locking, where the lock has it) to arm Away mode, and unlocking with an access code to disarm. Only access codes created in the Ring app work for this; a code created on the lock itself does not.
- Notifications when the disarm code opens the lock, when someone tampers with the lock, and when the lock malfunctions, jams or goes offline, plus a device history showing which code and which lock was used.
The subscription line is the one to read carefully. Ring's article on arming from a lock says the integration works when you are subscribed to a compatible Ring subscription, and its footnote says a compatible subscription is required for digital arming and disarming and certain other in-app features. Ring's plans page, as of October 2026, lists Ring Solo at $4.99/month, Ring Multi at $9.99/month and Ring Pro at $19.99/month or $199.99/year, with 24/7 professional monitoring in Ring Pro. Our Ring monitoring cost guide covers what each plan includes. Ring's lock articles do not name which plans count as compatible for lock arming, so confirm in the app before relying on it.
One inconsistency to know about: Ring's integration overview says lock integrations are available only in the United States, while its newer arming article says the United States and Canada.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth locks that work with the Ring app
Ring's store also sells locks labelled Works with Ring that do not connect to the alarm at all. They link to Ring doorbells and cameras, so you can unlock from a doorbell's Live View.
| Lock (Ring store price, October 2026) | Connection | What Ring says you need | Links to Ring Alarm? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yale Real Living Assure Lock SL with Z-Wave Plus ($219.99) | Z-Wave | Ring Alarm Base Station | Yes |
| Schlage Encode Smart Wi-Fi Deadbolt ($299.99) | Wi-Fi | A Ring Doorbell or Security Camera | No, doorbell and camera features |
| Level Bolt ($199.99) | Bluetooth and Amazon Sidewalk | Video Doorbell Pro and a Sidewalk bridge | No, doorbell features |
For the Schlage Encode, Ring lists locking and unlocking from Live View, real-time notifications and checking a visitor before granting access, and says the Encode is BHMA/ANSI Grade 1 certified and runs on 4 AA batteries. For the Level Bolt, Ring says a Video Doorbell Pro is required to link it through Amazon Sidewalk.
The practical rule: if you want the lock to arm and disarm the alarm, buy a Z-Wave model from Ring's certified list. If you only want to let people in from the doorbell feed, a Wi-Fi lock works without the Base Station.
Ring is one of three integration models. SimpliSafe sells its own lock, which requires a SimpliSafe system, and links August locks through a cloud integration; Abode sells a lock that works on its own or with an Abode system. Frequently asked questions
- Does Ring Alarm work with Schlage, Kwikset and Yale locks?
- Yes, through Works with Ring certification. Ring lists more than 35 Z-Wave models from those three makers. Each needs a Ring Alarm Base Station, and the exact model number has to be on Ring's list.
- Can I arm Ring Alarm by locking my door?
- Yes, with a certified Z-Wave lock. In the Ring app you set locking with an access code to arm Away mode and unlocking to disarm. Ring requires a compatible Ring subscription for digital arming and disarming, and only codes created in the Ring app work.
- Does it cost anything to connect a smart lock to Ring Alarm?
- Pairing is free, per Ring. The cost is the lock itself and, if you want arming and disarming from the lock, a compatible Ring subscription.
- Does the Schlage Encode work with Ring Alarm?
- Not with the alarm. Ring sells the Encode as a Wi-Fi lock that works with Ring doorbells and security cameras, so you can unlock from Live View. For alarm arming, Ring's list includes Z-Wave Schlage models such as the BE469ZP.
- Do I need a Ring Alarm Base Station for a smart lock?
- For Z-Wave locks, yes. Ring says Z-Wave locks need a Z-Wave controller such as the Base Station. Wi-Fi locks sold as Works with Ring instead need a Ring doorbell or camera.
