Home Security With No Credit Check: Who Skips It (2026)
To skip a credit check, pay for equipment upfront and choose month-to-month monitoring. As of October 2026, ADT's terms require satisfactory credit history, and ADT, Vivint and Brinks tie equipment financing to credit approval. SimpliSafe, Abode, Cove and Alarm Relay sell without a contract, and we found no credit requirement in their published plan terms.

Which home security companies check credit?
Credit checks show up in two places: approval for a monitoring contract, and approval for equipment financing. Here is what each company publishes, checked October 2026.
| Provider | Published credit language | No-credit route |
|---|---|---|
| ADT | "Satisfactory credit history required. A security deposit may be required." Financing as low as 0% APR only for well-qualified buyers with excellent credit | Not stated; the credit line appears in ADT's general residential terms |
| Vivint | Equipment financing is subject to credit approval by a third-party lender; a soft-pull pre-qualification runs during the sale with your consent | Pay for equipment upfront: Vivint says month-to-month service agreements are available when equipment is purchased upfront |
| Brinks Home | 0% financing "for qualified applicants" | Not published; every product purchase requires a 36-month monitoring contract |
| SimpliSafe | No credit language found on its plan or package pages; optional pay-over-time at checkout | Pay for the package at checkout; monitoring is no-contract |
| Abode | No credit language found on its plans page | Contract-free monthly or annual plans |
| Cove | No credit language found on its homepage | No contracts |
| Alarm Relay | No credit language found on its pricing page | Annual billing, no multi-year contract, works with an existing panel |
The last four rows are absence findings: we read each company's plan and pricing pages and found no credit requirement, but that is not a promise that no check happens at checkout. If a credit inquiry matters to you, ask before you pay.
The pattern is clear even with that caveat. Credit checks travel with long contracts and financed equipment. Paying for hardware at checkout and choosing month-to-month monitoring is the most reliable way to skip one.
What paying upfront costs instead
The trade-off for skipping credit is a larger first payment. Published prices as of October 2026:
| Option | Upfront | Monthly monitoring | Commitment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vivint HomeProtect, paid upfront | $349.99, plus $199 professional installation | $29.99 | No long-term contract |
| Vivint HomeProtect, with agreement | $199.99, installation included | $24.99 | 36-month agreement |
| SimpliSafe packages | $125.46 to $366.90 at the 50% sale prices shown, which require professional monitoring ($250.96 to $733.90 list) | Core $1.10/day | No contract |
| Abode | Equipment priced separately (not covered here) | Pro $26.99/mo or $245.99/yr | Contract-free |
| Alarm Relay (existing panel) | $35 setup on landline; activation fees may apply on other plans | $8.95 to $19.95/mo, billed annually | No multi-year contract |
Two things stand out. First, Vivint's own numbers price the credit-free route: paying upfront plus installation costs $349 more on day one than the agreement option ($548.99 vs $199.99, our arithmetic), in exchange for no 36-month term and a $5 higher monthly rate. Second, DIY systems avoid the question by keeping the upfront cost low enough to pay at checkout.
Alarm Relay bills a full year at once ($107.40 for its landline plan, $239.40 for cellular), which is a bigger single payment than month-to-month plans but still no credit product. If you already own a panel, see the cheapest professional monitoring for more takeover options.
If your credit is thin or damaged
A few practical moves, in order of how much they cost you:
- Pick a no-contract DIY system and pay at checkout. The best no-contract security systems guide compares them.
- Ask about the deposit. ADT's terms say a security deposit may be required; ask what amount applies before you agree to anything.
- Avoid opening a line of credit you do not need. Vivint says its Fortiva line of credit involves a hard credit inquiry that may affect your score, while its Bread Pay installment loan can proceed with a soft check. If you finance anywhere, ask which kind of inquiry runs. Our home security financing guide covers the 0% offers and their fine print.
- Rent or buy deliberately. Some contract systems effectively bundle equipment cost into the monitoring term. The renting vs buying equipment guide shows when ownership comes out ahead.
If you want professional installation and are not sure which providers will approve you, our quote tool collects quotes from monitoring providers through a short questionnaire; ask each one directly whether it runs credit. Whether professional monitoring is worth paying for at all is covered in is professional monitoring worth it.
Frequently asked questions
- Does ADT run a credit check?
- ADT's residential terms state that satisfactory credit history is required and a security deposit may be required. Its 0% APR financing is limited to well-qualified buyers with excellent credit, and buyers with lower credit may pay a one-time financing fee of up to $49.
- Can I get Vivint without a credit check?
- Vivint's financing is subject to credit approval, and it runs a soft-pull pre-qualification during the sale with your consent. Vivint also offers month-to-month service when equipment is bought upfront, such as HomeProtect at $349.99 plus $29.99 per month. It does not say on the pages we checked whether any credit inquiry applies to upfront buyers, so ask.
- Does SimpliSafe check credit?
- We found no credit requirement on SimpliSafe's monitoring or package pages. Monitoring is no-contract and equipment is paid at checkout. SimpliSafe also offers an optional 24-month pay-over-time plan for carts of $150 or more, and that option involves a third-party lender, so a check may apply if you choose it.
- Is there a no money down security system?
- Not with professional monitoring from the providers covered here: either you pay for equipment upfront or you finance it, which brings credit approval. The lowest-cash route is an existing alarm panel taken over by an independent company, where Alarm Relay's landline plan costs $107.40 per year plus a $35 setup fee.
