What Vivint costs by its own published pricing

Vivint sells professionally installed systems with required 24/7 monitoring. As of August 2026, its published numbers look like this:

Vivint's own monthly pricing article breaks down what real configurations cost: the Security Starter package is $749.99 upfront (or financed from $16.67/mo at 0% APR) with monitoring and service around $47/mo, and the Safety and Security package is $1,899.99 upfront with monitoring and service around $57/mo. The entry HomeProtect bundle has two published paths: $349.99 upfront plus $199 installation and $29.99/mo with no long-term contract, or $199.99 with free installation and a reduced $24.99/mo fee when signing a 36 month agreement.

Three year math on the two HomeProtect paths: the no-contract route totals about $1,628 ($349.99 + $199 + 36 x $29.99). The 36 month agreement route totals about $1,100 ($199.99 + 36 x $24.99). Vivint publishes an all-in monthly cost for each package: about $64/mo for Security Starter, about $76/mo for Doorbell Security, and about $110/mo for Safety and Security, financed equipment included. Contracts, financing, and what cancellation actually costs

Vivint's structure separates two obligations that both matter when you want out. First, the service agreement: cancellation requests go through Vivint's customer service line, and per Vivint's cancellation policy they may be subject to early termination or other fees as outlined in your specific service agreement. We could not find a published early termination amount or formula on Vivint's cancellation policy page, its how-to-buy page, or its offer terms; the number lives in your own contract documents.

Second, equipment financing: Vivint offers 0% APR financing through third party partners (terms up to 36 months on its purchase page, up to 60 months per its offer terms, subject to credit approval). This is a separate agreement, and Vivint's policy states plainly that customers who cancel service are still responsible for any outstanding equipment balance under the financing agreement. Canceling monitoring does not cancel the equipment loan.

Two mitigations are published: month to month service agreements are available when equipment is purchased upfront, and Vivint's Exceptions Review Team handles cancellations for documented extenuating circumstances (death, bankruptcy, moves to care facilities, active military duty), including a defined exception for customers 65 or older moving to a care facility. Also note Vivint's fine print: without a services plan, system functionality is limited, including loss of remote connectivity, so lapsed service degrades the product you financed.

Worth it if, not worth it if

Vivint is worth considering if:

• You want a fully integrated smart home (locks, cameras, thermostat, garage) installed and serviced professionally, in one app.
• You can pay for equipment upfront, which unlocks month to month service and removes the financing lock-in.
• You will stay in the home for years; Vivint publishes a moves program for taking the system along.
• You are comparing against ADT rather than DIY: at the $24.99 to $29.99 entry monitoring rates, Vivint's published monitoring pricing undercuts ADT's published pro install starting rates of $49.99 to $59.99/mo.

Vivint is probably not worth it if:

• You might cancel mid-stream, because you would face both possible service agreement fees and the remaining financed equipment balance.
• You do not need the smart home layer. Paying premium package prices for dispatch alone buys little over cheaper monitored systems; test that premise first in is professional monitoring worth it.
