Cove's day rates and monthly prices are both published by Cove (day rates on its monitoring page, monthly prices on its support site); Ring publishes monthly and annual prices only. Nothing in this table is our conversion.

The comparison hinges on what tier you actually need. For alarm monitoring plus cameras, Ring Pro at $19.99 is well under Cove Plus ($32.99) and Cove Premium ($42.99). For monitoring with no cameras at all, Cove Basic ($22.99) is the relevant tier, and Ring Pro still comes in slightly cheaper while including video features you may not use. On annual billing Ring Pro works out to about $16.67 per month (our arithmetic on the published $199.99 annual price), extending its lead.

Both are no-lock-in: Cove is explicitly contract-free with cancel-anytime billing and a 60-day risk-free trial; Ring plans auto-renew monthly or annually until canceled, with a 30-day free trial when you set up a device.

On hardware, Ring showed its 5-piece Alarm Security Kit at a promotional $199.99 against a listed regular price of $244.95 on its plans page as of August 2026; plan around the $244.95. What separates them beyond price

The monitoring model. Cove is a monitoring-first company: every published plan includes 24/7 professional monitoring from its six US-based centers, with a multi-factor response flow (InstaText, phone call, app) that Cove says can have help on the way in as little as 30 seconds after confirmation. Ring's monitoring arrives only at the Pro tier, and Ring states in its own plan disclosures that it does not own its monitoring center. Ring's lower tiers (Solo, Multi) are camera subscriptions, not security monitoring.

The video ecosystem. This is Ring's home turf. Ring Pro includes up to 180 days of video playback, person and package alerts, AI video descriptions, familiar-face tagging, and active spoken warnings (with published state restrictions: some features are unavailable in Illinois, and Familiar Faces is also excluded in Texas and Portland, Oregon). Add-ons extend it further: 24/7 continuous recording at $3 per month per camera and smoke/CO monitoring included at the Pro tier. Cove's video features top out at 30-day cloud storage with AI-powered alerts on Premium, per its published plan table.

Warranties and trials. Cove Premium carries a lifetime equipment warranty (cameras 2 years) plus a $5 monthly equipment credit; lower Cove plans carry 1 year. Ring publishes a 1-year manufacturer's warranty period on its devices, with extended coverage on select eligible devices while subscribed to Multi or Pro. Cove's 60-day return window is double Ring's 30-day free trial.

One caution for both: skipping the monitored tier to save money (Ring Solo or Multi, or running Cove hardware unmonitored) means no professional dispatch; the tradeoffs are covered in is professional monitoring worth it.

Which one to pick

Of the two, by published pricing as of August 2026:

• Pick Ring Alarm if you want cameras and a doorbell as part of the system, the longest published video history (180 days), Alexa integration, and the lowest flat monthly price for monitoring plus video. It is the stronger value for most camera-inclusive setups.
• Pick Cove if monitoring is the whole point and cameras are secondary: every Cove plan is monitored, the response flow is its headline feature, and the 60-day trial plus Premium's lifetime warranty reward buyers who plan to keep the system for years.
