Eufy vs Ring Doorbell: Subscription-Free vs Ring Protect

Eufy records to storage on the doorbell with no plan; Ring saves no video without a Ring plan ($49.99 a year for one device, October 2026). Over three years at regular prices, a eufy S330 wired doorbell costs $179.99 total versus about $230 for a Ring Wired Doorbell 2K with Ring Solo. Ring offers 4K models and alarm integration.

How do eufy and Ring store your video?

This is the core difference, and both companies state it plainly.

Ring stores video in its cloud and only with a plan. Ring's doorbell FAQ says that without a subscription you can view real-time video and answer doorbell notifications as they happen, but your videos and photos will not be saved. With a Ring plan, event video is kept for up to 180 days. Every Ring doorbell comes with a 30-day free trial. The full breakdown is in does Ring require a subscription.

eufy stores video locally. Its Video Doorbell (Wired) S330 page says recordings are stored on the doorbell itself, so watching your own footage never requires a subscription, with 8 GB built in that eufy estimates holds about 90 days of events at typical use. The battery-powered Video Doorbell E340 lists 8 GB on the device and works on its own or with a eufy HomeBase. eufy does sell optional cloud backup, $3.99 a month for one device or $13.99 for unlimited devices, but its storage compatibility table shows several doorbell models cannot use it. More on eufy's plans in does eufy require a subscription.

The practical consequence: an unsubscribed Ring doorbell is a live intercom with alerts. An unsubscribed eufy doorbell is a recorder. If footage of a missed package or a 3 a.m. visitor matters to you and you will not pay a monthly fee, that settles it. Other models built around local storage are compared in video doorbells with no subscription.

Hardware and plan prices compared

Prices below are each brand's own store prices on October 1, 2026. Both brands were running sales that day, so the table lists the regular price and the sale price.

Ring's plans, as of October 2026:

Ring planMonthlyYearlyCovers
Ring Solo$4.99$49.991 device
Ring Multi$9.99$99.99All devices at a location
Ring Pro$19.99$199.99All devices, plus 24/7 professional monitoring for Ring Alarm

Ring's entry hardware is cheaper. Of the two, only Ring listed 4K doorbells and a Power over Ethernet model (the $499.99 Wired Doorbell 4K Elite) on its own store on October 1, 2026; eufy's newest doorbell, the S4, is listed at 3K. The two eufy models in the table cost more up front than Ring's 2K models but carry no required plan.

What does each cost over three years?

Our arithmetic from the published prices above, using regular hardware prices and annual billing:

SetupHardware3 years of plan3-year total
Ring Wired Doorbell 2K + Ring Solo$79.99$149.97$229.96
Ring Battery Doorbell 2K + Ring Solo$99.99$149.97$249.96
eufy Video Doorbell (Wired) S330, no plan$179.99$0$179.99
eufy Video Doorbell E340, no plan$149.99$0$149.99

At the October 1 sale prices the gap narrows: a $39.99 Ring Wired Doorbell 2K plus three years of Ring Solo is about $190, against $109.99 for the discounted S330. Either way, by published pricing, eufy is cheaper over three years as long as you skip eufy's optional cloud backup. If you already pay for Ring Multi or Ring Pro for other Ring devices, a Ring doorbell adds no plan cost, and the math flips toward Ring's cheaper hardware.

Which one fits your situation?

Of these two brands, by published specs and pricing:

Pick eufy if you want recordings with no monthly fee, you are comfortable with footage living on the doorbell or a eufy base station, and you do not need an alarm system in the same app.

Pick Ring if you already own Ring cameras or a Ring Alarm, you want 4K or a PoE option, or you want the doorbell to record when an alarm trips. Ring's support pages say doorbells can be linked to start recording when Ring Alarm is triggered, though reviewing that video requires a Ring subscription.

One tradeoff cuts the other way: local storage on the doorbell means that if the unit is stolen or destroyed, the footage on it goes too. Cloud storage keeps a copy off-site. That is the honest case for paying Ring, and for eufy's optional backup where a model supports it.

Frequently asked questions

Does a eufy doorbell need a subscription?
Not to record. eufy's S330 page says recordings are stored on the doorbell and watching your footage never requires a subscription, and the E340 lists 8 GB of storage on the device. Cloud backup is optional at $3.99 a month for one device, as of October 2026, on models that support it.
Can Ring record without a subscription?
No. Ring's FAQ states that without a subscription you get live view and real-time notifications, but videos and photos are not saved. Ring Solo, the cheapest plan, is $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year for one device as of October 2026.
Which is cheaper over three years, eufy or Ring?
By published regular prices, eufy: the S330 wired doorbell is $179.99 with no plan, while a Ring Wired Doorbell 2K plus three years of Ring Solo comes to about $230. If you already pay for a Ring plan covering all devices, Ring's cheaper hardware can win.
Do eufy doorbells work with Ring Alarm?
Ring's alarm-linked recording feature is described for Ring cameras and doorbells in the Ring app. We found no Ring page listing eufy doorbells as linkable, so assume they run in separate apps.
