Live Remote Video Monitoring for Homes: What It Costs

As of October 2026, live video monitoring for homes costs about $50 to $99 a month from the providers that publish prices. SimpliSafe includes agent video monitoring in its Pro plan ($1.66/day, overnight only) and Pro Plus ($2.66/day, 24/7). Ring's Virtual Security Guard is $99/month per location for 175 monitored events. Deep Sentinel does not publish its monthly price.

What does live video monitoring cost?

Live video monitoring means a person at a monitoring center watches your cameras when something happens and can talk through the camera, sound a siren or request police. It is different from standard alarm monitoring, where an operator reacts to a sensor signal and calls you. Published prices, as of October 2026:

SimpliSafe Pro$1.66/dayabout $50Active Guard Outdoor Protection 8pm to 6am local, plus standard monitoringNo contract
SimpliSafe Pro Plus$2.66/dayabout $80Active Guard Outdoor Protection 24/7, plus standard monitoringNo contract

The per-month figures for SimpliSafe are our arithmetic on a 30-day month, since SimpliSafe publishes per-day rates.

For comparison, SimpliSafe's Core plan, which is standard professional monitoring without the live agent service, is $1.10/day (about $33 a month). On SimpliSafe's own price list, adding live video costs about 1.5 times Core for overnight coverage and about 2.4 times Core for round-the-clock coverage (our arithmetic). Cheaper standard plans from other brands are ranked in cheapest professional monitoring.

What do you get for the money?

The services differ in when agents watch and what triggers them.

SimpliSafe: on Pro and Pro Plus, agents can speak through the Outdoor Camera or Video Doorbell using two-way audio, sound the siren, or turn on the Outdoor Camera's spotlight. SimpliSafe also offers what it calls intruder intervention on select plans, where agents use the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera to see and speak to intruders during an alarm. Outdoor Protection works with the Video Doorbell (Series 2) and Outdoor Camera (Series 2), up to 3 cameras total, and the Outdoor Camera must stay plugged in. Pro covers 8pm to 6am local time; Pro Plus covers all day.

Ring Virtual Security Guard: guards start watching when Ring's person detection fires on an enrolled camera while the system is set to Home or Away. Depending on the situation, a guard may text you a clip, use Two-Way Talk, trigger the siren, call your contacts, or request police, fire or medical dispatch. Ring says the subscription includes everything in its Pro plan, including professional monitoring. Ring Alarm sensors are not watched by the guards, cameras with end-to-end encryption are not eligible, and guards cannot download or save your videos.

Deep Sentinel: its home page says guards monitor your cameras 24/7, with a 1-cam kit at $399 and a 6-cam kit at $1,149. It also states the original 3-camera system is sold out and that its second-generation system is rolling out in Q4, so availability is limited right now.

Live video is the strongest form of what monitoring centers call verification, because the agent can see a person before asking for police. How that changes dispatch is covered in video verification explained.

Where do the hidden costs come in?

The headline price is not always the full bill.

  • Event caps. Ring's $99 covers 175 events per month per location. If you use them up, the service stops until the next billing cycle unless you opt in to Extra Events at $0.99 each. A busy street or a driveway that sees regular foot traffic can use events quickly. Ring says a passerby is still an event the guard resolves.
  • Camera requirements. SimpliSafe's guard service only works with its Series 2 outdoor camera and doorbell, and Ring's only with listed Ring cameras. If your cameras are another brand, these services will not watch them.
  • Local fees. Ring's fine print notes that permit, false alarm or guard response fees may apply depending on your jurisdiction.
  • Contracts. Deep Sentinel's home system page shows a 1-year service contract on its sold-out original kit and a "flexible" LiveSentinel subscription on current kits, without published terms; SimpliSafe and Ring publish no contract.

If you are deciding where cameras need to go, driveway security cameras covers the hardest spot to cover well.

Who should pay for live video monitoring?

It earns its price where nobody can look at an alert in time: a second home, a property that sits empty for long stretches, or a household that routinely misses phone notifications. The vacation home monitoring guide covers that case in detail. It is harder to justify for a home where someone is usually present and a standard monitoring plan already covers break-in, fire and CO alarms.

Published response time figures for these services are rare, and we did not find one on any of the provider pages cited here. Our alarm monitoring response times page collects only published figures. Frequently asked questions

How much is Ring Virtual Security Guard?
$99 per month per location as of October 2026, covering 175 monitored events a month. Extra events cost $0.99 each if you opt in; otherwise the service pauses until the next billing cycle. Ring says it includes everything in Ring Pro, including professional monitoring.
Does SimpliSafe have live video monitoring?
Yes, on two plans. Pro ($1.66/day) includes Active Guard Outdoor Protection from 8pm to 6am local time, and Pro Plus ($2.66/day) includes it 24/7. It works with up to 3 Series 2 Outdoor Cameras or Video Doorbells, and both plans are month-to-month.
Are agents watching my cameras all the time?
Not in the services covered here. Ring's guards watch only when person detection fires on an enrolled camera while the system is armed, and cannot download or save videos. SimpliSafe's agents act during alarms and observed events within the plan's hours.
Can I get live video monitoring for cameras I already own?
Only if they are the provider's own compatible cameras. SimpliSafe's service needs its Series 2 outdoor camera or doorbell, and Ring's needs a listed Ring camera. For other brands, see our guide to professional monitoring for equipment you already own.
