Battery Security Camera Battery Life: Published Ratings

By the makers' own ratings, the rechargeable cameras covered here last about 2 to 18 months per charge. Blink rates its AA-powered cameras at up to two years, eufy rates the eufyCam S3 Pro at 365 days, Arlo rates its models at 4 to 18 months, and Reolink rates its Argus line at 70 days to 5 months on a Home Hub. Ring's battery support article gives no single figure, only "months between charges." Busy motion zones and cold weather cut these sharply.

Figures researched 2026-10-01; each source below carries its access date. Prices change; treat any price here as "as of" its date.

How long do battery security cameras last per charge?

Every figure below is the manufacturer's own rating from its support site as of October 2026. None is a measurement of ours, and the makers use different usage assumptions, which matters more than the headline number (see the next section).

Two patterns stand out. First, the long ratings come with bigger batteries: Arlo's XL models carry two to four times the standard models' rating, and Blink's extension pack, which adds four AA lithium batteries, doubles Blink's figure. Second, Blink is the outlier on battery type. Its cameras take non-rechargeable 1.5-volt AA lithium batteries only, so "battery life" there means buying new batteries, while the other brands here use rechargeable packs.

Reolink's figures in the table assume the camera is paired with a Reolink Home Hub, which Reolink says extends battery life compared with standalone operation, so a camera running on its own will not match them.

Why your camera will probably not hit the rating

The ratings assume a quiet camera. Arlo's "average use" means under three minutes of recording a day on its Optimized or Best Battery Life power setting. eufy's and Reolink's ratings assume 300 seconds a day. A front-door camera that wakes for every car, delivery and passing dog can exceed that before lunch.

The makers list the same drains:

  • Motion events and live view. Ring says the more Live Views, linked events and motion events a device performs, the more often it needs a recharge. Live view is a continuous stream, so a few minutes of checking in costs as much as many short clips.
  • Cold. Ring says its rechargeable batteries drain faster in cold weather, that devices operate normally between -4 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit, and that they are designed to stop charging below freezing. Arlo lists temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit as a factor that reduces battery life.
  • Weak connection. Ring, Blink and Arlo all say a weak Wi-Fi or hub signal increases drain, because the camera keeps reconnecting. For LTE cameras, Arlo says weak cellular signal does the same.
  • Low light and spotlights. Arlo lists low-light environments and frequent use of a built-in spotlight or floodlight.
  • Charging habits and battery age. Ring says over-charging makes batteries run out faster and recommends stopping a charge at about 90%, and notes batteries may not work as well after years of use.

The practical fix is the same everywhere: tighten motion zones away from the street, lower sensitivity, shorten clip length, and check the app's power or battery screen after the first month to see what the camera actually draws.

How to stop recharging altogether

If a camera covers a busy spot, the honest answer is that no battery rating will hold. Three ways out:

  1. Solar. A panel that tops up the battery during the day can cover typical drain if the mount gets enough sun. eufy, for example, says two hours of daily solar charging under optimal conditions can keep its 4G LTE Cam S330 powered indefinitely, and rates that camera at about one month without solar. Models and their sunlight needs are compared in solar-powered security cameras.
  2. Wired power where you can get it. Many battery doorbells and cameras accept a wired connection or plug-in adapter; Ring lists solar accessories, plug-in adapters and hardwiring as ways to keep its devices charged. A wired camera also removes the motion-event budget entirely.
  3. Pick the battery type deliberately. Blink's AA approach suits a low-traffic spot you rarely visit; a rechargeable pack suits a camera you can reach. If you are comparing the two big ecosystems, see Blink vs Ring cameras.

Cellular cameras drain faster than Wi-Fi cameras on the same battery: Arlo's Go 2 rating carries the caveat that it varies with mobile signal. Running costs for those are in 4G LTE security camera data costs. For doorbells, the battery question sits next to the subscription question, covered in video doorbells with no subscription, and the wider set of cameras that record without monthly fees is in no-subscription security cameras.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Blink camera battery last?
Blink rates its cameras at up to two years on AA lithium batteries with default settings, and the Outdoor 4 at up to four years with the Battery Extension Pack, which adds four more AA lithium batteries. Blink says only 1.5-volt AA lithium non-rechargeable batteries are compatible.
How long does a Ring battery last?
Ring's battery support article says its batteries are made to last for months between charges but does not give a single figure. It lists motion events, Live View, cold weather, weak Wi-Fi and battery age as the factors that shorten it.
Which battery camera lasts longest?
Of the models covered here, by published ratings, Blink's Outdoor 4 with the extension pack (up to four years) and Arlo's Pro XL 6th Gen (18 months) carry the longest figures. The ratings use different usage assumptions, so they are not a like-for-like comparison.
Do battery cameras work in winter?
They work with shorter battery life. Ring says its devices operate between -4 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit and stop charging below freezing, and Arlo lists temperatures below 32 degrees as a factor that reduces battery life.
Why does my camera battery drain in a few weeks?
Usually because it records far more than the rating assumes. Arlo's ratings assume under three minutes of recording a day and eufy's and Reolink's assume 300 seconds. Busy motion zones, frequent live view and a weak signal are the common causes.
