Compared with local-storage camera brands: companies like eufy and Reolink publish cameras that record to on-device or hub storage with no plan at all, but those are cameras, not alarm systems; they do not arm, disarm, or dispatch anyone. That is the real shape of the choice. If what you want is recorded video with no fees, a local-storage camera setup does it and SimpliSafe does not. If what you want is a burglar alarm with the option of professional response, SimpliSafe without a plan is a functional but hollow version of the product, and the monthly fee is where its actual value lives.
